4 Simple Summer Outdoor Activities

Summer is here yawl. That means it’s time to get outside and soak up some Vitamin D.

If you have children age 7 and under, here are 4 simple summer activities that I’m sure your children will love:

1. Sand

Listen. You do not need an official sand box! Get an under the bed box or gift wrapping storage box. Pick up a bag of sandbox sand from your local hardware store. (I’ve gotten sand before from Ace Hardware and Home Depot.) Fill the bin up with sand. Round up old toys and some fun things to dig with. Mini beach pail sets make a great addition because they are small enough to leave them in there. (I have found the mini pail sets at my local drug store.)

The best part about using a storage bin for a sand box is the sand stays clean and safe with the pop of the lid. NO BUGS! The other good part is it’s portable. You can move the sand area wherever you like!

Our sand box is usually on top of the outdoor storage bin that we use to store the cushions. But you can easily set the bin on the ground, a table, or atop another standard sized storage bin.

2. Water Table

Water tables are a must-have! Invest in one as soon as your baby is able to stand so you can get the maximum amount of use out of it. Water tables run from $25 to $100+ if you want to get fancy! But you can check out your local Mom-to-Mom and garage sales. You may luck out and find one for 5 to 10 bucks!

Add bubbles, themed toys, water beads, foam letters, rocks, there are so many ways to spice up a water table.

Both the water table and sand box are small space friendly!

3. Sprinkler

Do not underestimate the power of old-fashioned fun! An old school sprinkler and hose is always a good time. (And your lawn will be greener too!)

4. Kiddie Pool

A kiddie pool is also another summer fun classic. Children love to splash and cool off in water. Add those old bath toys that are seconds away from the trash and wah-lah! More water wonderfulness!

It goes without saying, that children should always be supervised with these activities. Safety first!

If you really want to create joy this summer, set up all 4 of these simple outdoor activities at the same time. Slather on your sunscreen, fill up the water bottles and snack bags, and get ready to post up outside. Much like a summer camp environment, the children love going from station to station. With all their senses engaged, these four simple summer activities will keep them entertained for hours!
