If you follow my Instagram stories you already know all about my morning routine, centered around my coffee and a seemingly ordinary light. I thought it only fitting to share it here, on the blog.
My morning coffee is the most precious, wonderful time of my day. It’s warm. It’s cozy. It’s dependable. Sometimes my coffee time is peaceful (if you watch my IG stories you know the girl is an early riser). I like an Original Dunkin K Cup, with a generous jigger of Silk Almond Creamer (Sweet & Creamy Flavor), and one Truvia packet. I just love my coffeeeeeeeee!
My morning inspiration is either scripture and/or gospel music. I use the Bible App on my phone to read a daily scripture. I try to reflect on the word and it’s meaning in my life. This coming year, I’m going to add some inspirational books and a gratitude journal to the mix.
Most days of the year, I have a girlfriend who shares a daily quote with me by text. She takes a lot of time and energy to find just the right quote and always posts them between 5-6am. I really enjoy waking up to her inspiring texts.
I’m a Michigander. The days get short and dark for months. Last winter, I was dragging so bad that I was willing to try anything to give me a little pick up. Although I’m not diagnosed with seasonal affective disorder, I definitely lacked energy when the seasons changed. I’m a Leo, give me all the sun! So, I headed to Bed Bath and Beyond (with my coupon of course), and purchased a Happy Light (by Verilux).
I bought one for myself and one for the hubs. Hubs took his to work for his desk. I placed mine next to the chair I sit in to have my coffee, and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s subtle. But I do feel more awake when I use it. I need 15-20 minutes to really feel it, which lines up perfectly with the amount of time I need for my coffee and inspiration time.
