The Dolls + Donuts party theme was every.thing!

I’ve thrown some amazing parties in my day. But I must admit, this is one of my faves!
Donuts go well with any party theme yawl. So don’t let the dolls steer you away. You could pair donuts with pretty much anything! A baby shower donut sprinkle, a stuffed animal and donut party, donuts and superheroes, the possibilities with donuts are endless!
I was worried that a party during quarantine would be a bust. We decided against the popular drive-by party because it’s so so hot in August. Not to mention, 6 months into staying at home, the excitement for party drive-by’s is waning.
So we settled on an intimate Zoom Party. The girl and I are both over Zooms. Making the Zoom Party both fun and engaging was my mission. This was a real challenge because the girl runs away at the first sound of Z!
Since doll life is a real thing around here, I wasn’t surprised when the girl wanted a doll party.
She wanted a MY LIFE AS A DOLL party (the dolls from Walmart). And at first, I was going to give her exactly that. Something similar to those Barbie parties where the child is the doll. But everything would’ve had to be hand-made. I’m always down to be creative but that was going to be a lot paper crafting for one 45 minute virtual party. Also, I like to incorporate things we already have or can re-use for decorations.
Her sister friend had a birthday and we took her a pink sprinkled donut. The girl was smitten and added donuts to her party request. That’s how the Dolls + Donuts theme, organically came together.
You can still celebrate in quarantine! Creativity is not cancelled!
Honestly, that was this party’s secret sauce- cr8tivity.
The key component of the party action were the goodie baskets.
Each friend was hand-delivered their goodie gift before the party with a pink sprinkle donut and a donut hole for her doll.
Everything the party guests needed for the party were in the goodie baskets which they opened together at the Zoom party time. (Be sure to watch the video for more details on the goodie baskets.)
Invitations + Tags
The super cute invitations and tags came from Etsy. They took 10 minutes to customize!
Etsy is my go-to for finding creative finds- invitations, prints, birthday t-shirts, cupcake toppers, headbands. Etsy has all kinds of cuteness, especially if you are short on time but you want something original.

The Quarantine Zoom Party
The Zoom party was very intimate. There were 3 girls in addition to the birthday girl. We ended up having one last minute guest. The goodie baskets and Zoom party were so fun, one big brother stayed for the entire party! He was not going to miss out on the fun!
The intimate group and the 40 minute party time was ideal. The party was manageable and the children were engaged the entire time. Lil’ Miss Cr8 wrote her own agenda for the party and she did a great job hosting. I stood in the wings, calling each child by name to see what they were making or asking them to show us things from their goodie baskets. This really helped to keep everyone on the same activities at the same time.
The Zoom Party Agenda
- Introduce yourself. (The big brother lead the perfect impromptu singing of the birthday song.)
- Open the goodie baskets. ( I forewarned the parents to have scissors on hand for opening.)
- Look at all the fun things.
- Put on your Bestie Donut Bracelet and Donut Ring.
- Donut time! (Get out your unicorn plate and set the doll’s donut hole on it. (Take a bite first to make sure it tastes good!) Eat your donut.)
- Put the bow on your doll.
- Draw a picture on the index card for your doll’s picture frame.
- Keep eating your donuts and color the donut coloring page. (I found this “sweet” donut coloring page on TPT.)
- Surprise! The birthday girl opened a gift from her doll. (It was a Shopkins’ set.)
- Thanks for coming!
The party and day turned out way more fantastic than we thought, especially when AlphaLit Detroit showed up! These giant marquee letters really took things over the top!
This display made the birthday girl feel even more special. She loved seeing her name in lights. The letters turned magical at night.
